Shawn and his identical twin were born missing several teeth. The teeth just never developed. The teeth they did have were small, oddly shaped, and quite brittle. 

Their mom wanted to get them orthodontia but simply couldn’t afford the care. They visited numerous dentists and orthos to get prices but everything was simply too expensive.

Growing up with small, crooked, and missing teeth was very tough. Like most teens Shawn was convinced that the world was looking at him all the time. He just wanted to blend in but he was so self-conscious over his smile that he would cover his mouth when laughing so people wouldn’t see his teeth. He felt like everyone else had braces and he wanted them too!

When the boys turned 16 they immediately got jobs. They were determined to get braces, even if they had to pay for it themselves. 

Around this same time, their mom got a new job and was offered something they had never had before; health and dental insurance! They learned that insurance would cover 50% of the ortho costs. With their part time jobs at Taco Time and True Value Hardware the boys were able to get braces the summer before their junior year of high school. 

Over the years, Shawn and his wife have been able to help several youth get braces who would not otherwise have been able to afford it. Doing so has been extremely rewarding and they are looking for more young people who need assistance to smile with confidence!
